Celebrate Arbor Day on Friday, April 28

April 4, 2017
The Village and Arlington Heights Park District will be celebrating Arbor Day on Friday, April 28 from 9:30 - 11 a.m. at Greens Park, corner of Olive Street and Douglas Avenue.

The first  Arbor Day took place on April 22, 1872, on J. Sterling Morton’s birthday. Morton was considered the "Founder of Arbor Day." Today, National Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April. All fifty states, Puerto Rico, and some U.S. territories have passed legislation adopting Arbor Day, which is celebrated on a date appropriate for tree planting in their region. Visit to learn more.

As part of the annual Arbor Day celebration provided by the Village and Park District, the Park District is hosting an Arbor Day Tree Drawing contest for children ages Pre-K through 6th grade. Winners will win prizes and which will be announced at the Arbor Day celebration! Click here for contest information. Entries must be submitted by April 21.

Arbor Day is set aside as a day to plant and celebrate the importance of trees. Trees are a wonderful resource that cleans air and water and provides beauty for all to enjoy.
Please join us April 28 to celebrate the importance of trees!
